Аннотация: In this publication an attempt is made to shed light on a period of the history of the Sinhala cinema, which remains almost undocumented to date. To narrate this exciting, unusual story between Sri Lankan and South Indtan cinema, we have used first hand information collected from few surviving members out of the large number of indian artistes invoived in making of Sinhala film during the earlier period and lengthy interviews conducted with some of the leading film jorurnalists and cinema historians of South India. Information contained in the materials culled from various English and Tamil publications as well as details obtained from numerous writings published in the form of memoirs, nostalgia, interviews, biographical notes and review in the English, Tamil and Sinhala newspapers and perioicals have also been used to narrate this story. The time constraints and resources at our command did not permit us to carry out an indepth study of the subject of this publication or collect and document comprehensive information about the all Indian men and women who contributed to the Sinhala cinema during the early decades. Within these limitation, we have made an effort to probide an informative book on our chosen subject with rare and long foggoten visuals of the yesteryear and earnestly hope that this work woud be useful and provide an interesting reading experience to the readers who are interested in cinema in general and Sri Lankan cinema in particular. At another level, the historical and biographical information provided in this book along with appropriate visuals depicting the early era of Sinhala cinema, are liklely to provide some basic source materials fo the future researches focusing on the artists and cultural relatioins previled between India and Sri Lankan during a particular point of time. Based on both Indian and Sri Lankan archival materials, interviews, contemporary reminiscences and rare photographs, an attempt is made in this Book to explore the circumstances that led to the South Indian involvement in the Sinhala cinema during its infancy and formative years and trace the biographical information and areas of expertise of the large number of Indians who contributed in the making of Sinhala films.
